FAQs
What contact lens options are available?
Depending on your prescription, lifestyle and how often you plan to wear your contact lens there are different options available: Dailies, reusable, toric and multifocal. Give us a call or come in for a visit to discuss your options. You can read more about each of these contact lens options below.
Daily Disposable Lens
Daily lens are worn once throughout the day and then thrown away. They are perfect for people who want to wear lenses for sport, holidays and special occasions.
Available for:
Myopia control, short sight, long sight, astigmatism, presbyopia.
Reusable Lens - Fortnightly, Monthly
Reusable lenses are perfect for people who want to wear contact lenses full time instead of their glasses. These are available as a two weekly lens or monthly and are to be worn throughout the day, removed and cleaned in solution before wearing again.
Available for: Myopia control, short sight, long sight, astigmatism, presbyopia
Toric Contact lens
Short and long sighted prescriptions can be corrected with a “spherical” contact lens, whereas astigmatic prescriptions require a “toric” contact lens. These toric lenses allow better accuracy when correcting the distortion that is seen with astigmatism. Toric lenses are available in daily and reusable lenses.
Multifocal Lens (for Presbyopia)
Multifocal lenses are suitable for patients who use varifocal glasses or reading glasses. A multifocal lens provides a stronger prescription for near vision, whilst maintaining distance vision at the same time. These are also available as a daily and reusable lens.
Do you do contact lenses for children?
If you are thinking of trying your child with contact lenses, we’re here for you and ready to discuss your child's needs. We will ensure we discuss what’s required of a contact lens wearer, the different types of lens, responsibilities involved in contact lens care and hygiene.
Richard Petrie Optometrists is a proud stockist of the MiSight contact lens, which is a new treatment designed specifically for children with Myopia (short sightedness). They have been designed to be easy to use, so they are perfect for children to manage. The technology within the lens corrects refractive error and can control axial elongation. Click here for more information about the MiSight lens and how it works. Be sure to give us a call to discuss your child’s contact lens needs.
Are contact lenses recycled?
We are always looking for ways to make our operations more sustainable for the planet. In March 2019 as part of this commitment to sustainably, we joined Acuvue and Terracycle in their nationwide scheme for Contact Lens Recycling.
Every year thousands of contact lenses and their packaging get thrown into landfill or flushed down the toilet which contributes to the plastic waste in the environment. We are one of few registered drop off points for recycling in Derby, and open up our contact lens recycling to everyone, not just our patients!
Contact lens brand ACUVUE® have partnered up with recycling company TerraCycle® to offer a national solution for recycling contact lenses and their packaging. Johnson and Johnson, the manufacturers of Acuvue contact lenses recognises the importance of creating environmentally sustainable products and looks at the full life-cycle of a product it’s during development.
At the moment only soft contact lenses can be recycled, along with the blister packaging and foil lid. These can be kept all together and dropped off in the designated box in our waiting area or given to a member of staff.
How much do contact lenses cost?
Your package includes your contact lens aftercare appointments using imaging to assess the surface of the eye. The price depends on the contact lens you are fitted with as well as the frequency of wear. Enquire about a package price to include your eye exam as our total inclusive contact lens and eyecare packages are very competitively priced.
