On Trend Eyewear for The Season

Richard Petrie Optometrists’ frame styling expert, Joanna Thompson, talks about the latest eyewear trends and how to choose fantastic new frames that are perfect for you this season.

Isn’t the start of a new season a great time to treat yourself to something new to wear? Whether it’s a staple that you’ll keep for years, an on-trend piece to wear on nights out or just something that catches your eye, it’s a great excuse for a bit of self-indulgence.

It’s no different when it comes to eyewear. A change in specs can be a little daunting if you haven’t experimented with different shapes or colours before but really, that’s just where the fun begins…

Though Autumn/Winter 2017, we saw lots of dark, bold shades and muted florals all over the high street. Dark red, deep green, navy and mustard yellow are all staying at the top of the trend list this season.

As we start to see Spring styles coming in for the new season, things are looking brighter. Frame trends we’re seeing include bold, primary colours, pale pastels and sparkles. Teamed with some great frame shapes and interesting prints, a new pair of glasses can give any outfit you wear this season that bit of extra pizzazz.

You might be surprised by what suits you, so it’s always worth a visit to experiment with frames that you might not normally go for. At the practice, we all get involved in choosing what frames we stock, so that we have a good selection of designer ones to suit all tastes.

Joules Eyewear

The Joules collection is a real favourite with our customers. Offering frames for women and children, the spectacle range reflects everything we know and love about the Joules brand – bold patterns, great shapes and sophisticated style.

There’s something for everyone from Joules. If you’re looking for something striking, there are some fantastic shapes to choose from. The squ-oval shaped frames – square with rounded corners – have been flying off the displays all year. They look particularly fabulous with the two-tone colouring like the tortoise-shell and jade green combination or these lovely bright blue and pink frames.

If you prefer a thinner frame, try the lighter Joules option. The metal spectacles offer a more subtle look. They’re still true to the Joules style though, with the sides of the frames featuring signature Joules prints – including florals, stripes and spots.

For a classic look, why not try a Joules frame in just one colour? Rounder shapes make a really bold statement in primary colours and are a winner for anyone with a square-shaped face.

The more square and rectangular frames from Joules in bright colours work well too and bold angular frames are ideal for anyone with a round face shape. If you’re known for wearing brights, why not take the plunge with a coloured frame that really stands out?

You can probably tell that we really love the Joules collection. In fact, Lisa, Fiona and Ruth all wear Joules frames! We also visited the shop in Derby to match some outfits with our favourite specs.
