Spreading Your Eye Care and Eye Exam Cost with Direct Debit

By Davina, Optometrist & Practice Owner

It has never been more important to have an eye examination. A report by the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) last year found that in the UK, there are more than 6 million people living with uncorrected, refractive error and sight-threatening conditions.

Some groups of people are more at risk than others, but no matter how old you are, how good you feel or how well you can see, having a regular eye examination is always a good idea.

Just Like a Regular Trip to the Dentist

We recommend that you think of your eye exam as you would your dental check-up. Of course, you’ll make an appointment if you’ve got toothache, but you’ll also make sure you have a regular check-up every 6 or 12 months. It’s the same for your eyes!

From talking to some of our patients, we find that one of the main reasons for delaying booking an appointment, even if it’s overdue, is the issue of eye exam cost.

That’s why we introduced the RP4 Priority Patient Plan.

Spreading Eye Care and Eye Exam Cost with RP4

Spread eye exam cost with the RP4 plan

RP4 is a really simple system to help you pay for your eye care. It’s a monthly payment of £10 which covers the cost of your eye examination and the OCT scan. By becoming an RP4 member, you will also get a lovely 30 percent off all of your purchases, including:

  • Spectacle frames – choose from our full range of designer glasses including great styles from Joules, Ted Baker and Silhouette
  • Lenses – from basic reading glasses lenses to complex, bespoke varifocals created using our high-tech Visi-office®2 machine
  • Prescription and non-prescription sunglasses – we’ve got styles for hitting the beach, the slopes or just for having lunch on the terrace
  • Accessories – you can never have too many cleaning cloths, glasses chains or cases – you get 30 percent off any spectacle-related purchases too

NHS Eye Exams

If you’re entitled to an NHS eye exam then that doesn’t mean that you can’t be a member of our RP4 payment plan. It will give you the chance to upgrade your standard eye test with an OCT scan so we can examine your full eye health.

Regular eye examinations aren’t just about assessing how far you can see. Our technology gives us a well-rounded picture of your overall eye health, from our OCT scanner that takes photographs of the back of your eye to our field vision tests that check your peripheral vision.

We can pick up early signs of Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration and Cataracts. And if we have any concerns, we can send your scans to the Ophthalmology Department at the Royal Derby Hospital for extra advice from specialists.
