With cooler and dare I say slightly darker evenings which seem to have crept up on us, it seems Summer 2019 is now heading towards Autumn. For many it will be back to work, school, new beginnings at university and possibly a fresh start if you were able to press the reset button over the summer break.
This Summer we campaigned about a new contact lens recycling scheme and raising the importance of UV protection in childhood. Both of which were also featured by the Derby Evening Telegraph in print and online. We received a nomination for an award in “Customer Service Excellence” by SightCare and we welcomed a new practice baby when Joanna had baby Edith this year.
To mark the end of the season we held a shopping evening showcasing some select ladies ranges of glasses and sunglasses which gave us an opportunity to see some of our lovely patients and RP4 members. Brands included were Chloe, DVF, Lacoste and Longchamp amongst others. This was a unique opportunity for those attending to browse the entire range of these brands in all colours and styles, some of which we simply do not have space to keep in stock. The event was a success and was the first one we have held. Watch this space, it may be something we repeat again in future at some point.
September also brings with it the Macmillan coffee morning which we will be hosting on Friday 27th September. All proceeds are donated to Macmillan and those who have attended know that it really is a treat with bakes from Emma, Lisa and Ruth…my personal favourite, Lisa’s mum’s cheese scones…another popular entry Ruth’s coffee cake! We raised over £400 last year so help us exceed this by coming along for some cake and a natter. Private examination fees taken that morning are also being donated. Look out for an update once we’ve done the count!
Looking towards Autumn, be aware of low sun and glare. Wear polarised sunglasses when driving, you can enquire about them if you don’t have any. We will be hosting a ‘Driving Safety Drop-in” event where you can come and check your driving vision and get an Optometrist’s opinion in a safe environment. Watch this space for dates and times!
