  • Vision measurements
  • Ocular movements
  • Assessment of refractive status and visual acuity
  • Binocular vision assessment
  • External and internal examination of the eyes

  • Prescription measurement and interpretation

Are you having your eyes tested regularly enough?

We recommend at least an annual eye examination for all patients—even if you're not experiencing any noticeable changes in your vision. Eyes and vision naturally change over time, and regular check-ups allow us to monitor your eye health and catch any issues early.

At Richard Petrie Optometrists, annual eye examinations are included as part of our RP4 membership, reflecting our belief in proactive, preventative eyecare. Emergency and interim appointments are also covered, offering you peace of mind throughout the year.

For children, regular monitoring is especially important as their eyes are still developing. While we typically see children every 6 to 12 months, we tailor the frequency based on individual needs—sometimes seeing them more frequently if ongoing support or closer observation is required

What eye care services do you provide for children?

As parents ourselves, we understand how vital good vision is to a child’s development, learning and confidence. We're always happy to welcome children whether for a their very first visit to an opticians, a routine eye examination, contact lens tutorial or simply to try on new glasses or sunglasses.

We offer comprehensive children’s eyecare including advanced tests such as Optos ultra-wide retinal imagingaxial length measurement, and visual stress screening where needed.

Children under 5 receive complimentary eyecare, and if you’re on our RP4 Classic or Extra plan, you can nominate one child under 18 to receive fully inclusive eyecare too. If a child requires glasses or more tailored care, we’ll guide you through our dedicated children’s membership options.

With school vision screening in Derbyshire no longer offered, regular eye checks are more important than ever. We typically see children every 6 to 12 months, depending on their individual needs.

Our team is highly experienced in children’s vision care, including myopia management for slowing the progression of short-sightedness.
