Now that it’s chillier in the mornings and darker in the evenings, the chances are you’re turning up the heating and cosying up in chunky jumpers.
This season brings us family get-togethers, lots of shopping trips and (with any luck) some snow. But it also carries some not so fun effects for our eyes.
Here’s my annual winter eye trends blog with a couple of things to remember:
Winter dry eyes
Being outside on windy, winter days can cause dry eyes. Artificial heaters at home or in the office dry the moisture in the air and can cause dryness too. It’s most common with people who wear contact lenses but it can be a problem for others. One of the best treatments is lubricating eye drops, which we have available at the practice.
Don’t be fooled by winter sunshine. It might not feel warm but it can still be damaging to your eyes, especially if it’s reflected off snow or ice. Keep your eyes protected with a pair of good-quality sunglasses or snow goggles if you’re off on a skiing holiday. And make sure they reflect 100 percent of UVA rays like our Maui Jim sunglasses frames.
With office parties, Christmas meals and pantomimes to attend over the coming season, it can be tricky for ladies to find time to give their eyes a rest from wearing cosmetics. Our #partyeyes tips on Twitter offer some great advice on keeping your eyes healthy and gorgeous.
Some Seasonal Style
From off-the-catwalk frames and unusual shapes to bright patterns and timeless classics: we’ve got plenty of sophisticated spectacles to suit every style, face-shape and occasion. Here’s a look at some of the most best winter eye trends this season.
Cat eyes – Showing no signs of stopping, the cat eye style trend is still really popular for ladies. These frames from Oliver Goldsmith echo the sophisticated style of iconic Hollywood royalty. Will you be Hepburn or Monroe this season?
Round and round – 90s grunge has made a comeback this year and with it came a revival of round framed glasses from the 60s that the Gallagher brothers made their trademark. The Hook LDN Parklife frames, which we are exclusive stockists for in Derby, capture this circular style perfectly.
Monochromatic – Classic black and white will never go out of style. Our Kurt Geiger and CK frames combine ultra-modern design with a timeless palette for spectacles that work with any outfit for any occasion.
Sparkle season – With the festive period upon us it would be criminal not to take advantage of our glitzy and glamorous frames. These designs from Chloe, DVF and Miss KG have just enough sparkle for you to breeze through the Christmas season in style.
Frames not your thing? – If you prefer contacts to spectacles, we offer the 1-DAY ACUVUE® DEFINE™ brand of contact lenses in NATURAL SPARKLE™ NATURAL SHIMMER™ OR NATURAL SHINE ™. Each option seamlessly blends with your eye colour for a unique look.
