2017 – A Milestone Year for the Richard Petrie Team

What a year 2017 has been! We’ve got lots to celebrate in the practice including an award shortlisting, three big work anniversaries and some new arrivals too!

Work Milestones

We’ve celebrated lots of big work birthdays in the team this year.
Davina celebrated 10 years practising as an optometrist at Richard Petrie Optometrists, although she originally joined in 2001 as a Saturday girl and then did Summer work placements. When Davina re-joined in 2007, she had been qualified for two years and in 2014, she officially took over the practice.

In September it was Ruth’s 10th anniversary at the practice. It’s hard to believe we’ve had Ruth for 10 years, giving us the best expertise in lens technology and eyewear trends. She is a real asset to our team and we celebrated with a lovely cake and a cheeseboard!

October saw us celebrate Lisa being at the practice for a very impressive 30 years! We had a special lunch with all the team and Lisa’s friends and family to celebrate. We also managed to dig out an old newspaper clipping from back when the practice moved across Burton Road to our current premises!

New Arrivals

As well as celebrating our experienced team, we have also welcomed a new addition to the team. Emma joined us in May and you may have met her at the practice. As well as helping Joanna and Lisa greeting patients and booking appointments, Emma is our digital whizz, and makes sure that our Instagram and Facebook accounts are filled with great content and photographs of our latest frames.

We also welcomed a very young apprentice to the team – Ruth’s baby boy Nathaniel was born on 24 October, weighing 7lb 9oz. And we’ll have some news about another addition soon…!

Time for the Team

We’ve been doing some extra activities this year as part of our goal to make Richard Petrie Optometrists a really great place to work.

We have welcomed Debbie from Mind Fit Coaching to help us with communication and positivity. She’s given us some great skills and techniques to help us practice mindfulness and really take time to take care of ourselves. Her group and one-to-one training sessions have brought us together as a team and helped us to be a more positive workforce.

We have also enjoyed lots of celebrations and team nights out and even did a photoshoot at our local Joules store on Sadlergate in Derby to choose some beautiful outfits to match the fantastic Joules frames we have in store.

Award-winning Optical Practice?

The icing on the cake for us this year is that we’ve been shortlisted for Health and Wellbeing Practice of the Year in the AOP Awards 2018. It’s a new award category in these annual awards that are run by the Association of Optometrists (AOP). The winners are announced at a black-tie dinner during the industry event 100% Optical in January.

The winner is decided by who gets the most votes – we’re one of three practices, nationwide, on the shortlist and we would love it if you could cast a vote for us! Just follow this link to vote for AOP Health and Wellbeing Practice of the Year and choose Richard Petrie Optometrists!
